So, we’re told that the candidate, John K. Bush, “once used an infamous slur against gay people in a speech praising his home town of Louisville,” as though he were throwing out slurs or epithets. Only later — much later — do we find he is quoting from Hunter S. Thompson, who had used the word “faggot,” and who figures prominently in the talk. The writer (Ian Millhiser) informs us of that fact, he says, “to be fair,” but there is nothing at all fair about this screed. Bush is anti-abortion, dubious of public funding of elections, and not PC. And, oh, he has conservative views. Is that the worst dirt ThinkProgress can dig up on the man? Really?
It’s precisely the kind of hatchet job that was used against Neil Gorsuch, who was pilloried for this vote against the so-called “frozen truck driver,” but whose dissent in favor of the school kid who was arrested for burping in class was ignored.
Cheap shots. Cheap publication.
