The humbling experience of writing on Medium

I just wrote my first post on Medium after toying with the idea for several weeks. I was extremely excited to get it published and see what people had to say about my work. I triple checked everything to ensure that it read exactly how I wanted.
A full 24 hours passed, and as I went to check my stats, I was horrified to see that my post had gotten a total of 0 views and 0 reads. Was my title not eye-catching? Did I not write about the right thing? What did I do wrong?
The answer, NOTHING. My title was completely what I wanted. My content said exactly what I wanted it to say. My post what everything I wanted it to be. But that didn’t change the fact that no one at all read it.
This has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. When I write for other websites, my articles get views immediately because people know to come to that site.
On Medium, you do not have the option to piggyback off of someone’s name recognition or success. Here, you have to make a name for yourself and hope that you can find people who want to hear what you have to say.
This is what truly makes a creator. They have to realize that what they create might not been seen or cared about by anyone at all. Regardless of the time, effort, and sacrifice you put into your work, sometimes you just don’t reap any benefits. But that’s what makes a creator special.
What separates a creator from the average person is that they continue to create even if no one is watching.
Creators do what they do for themselves because they enjoy doing it. They don’t care if other people appreciate or even notice their creations. Creators know the importance of creating and that the recognition is just a bonus.
So here I am. A second post after my first tanked with a little under 1 view. Who’s gonna read this article? I have no idea, and to be honest, I don’t frankly care. This article is for me to show that I want to create even if no one is paying attention.
For anyone who may read this, thank you. I hope you have gained some sort of insight from it, and I welcome you to leave a comment letting me know what you thought. I hope to see you in my next post, because I am not going to stop creating.
