What makes a bad website?
1 min readJun 14, 2016
It’s pretty easy to spot a bad website when you see it, but do you know exactly why certain sites are unappealing? Likely they have made a combination of (several of) these mistakes :
- Too many colours or using very bright neon colours
- Too many images — or no images at all
- Blinking text and animations
- “Under Construction” signs
- Pixellated images
- Broken links
- Boring or out of date content
- Content that does not explain what the organization does
- No call to action — what do you want us to do?
- Dark background with light text or red text
- Tiny fonts that make it difficult to read
- Rainbow anything
- TEXT IN ALL CAPS
- Everything is centred
- Using unprofessional fonts (like Comic sans)
- Navigation buttons that don`t work or take you somewhere you don’t want to go
Do you have any thing else to add? What is the worst website you have ever seen?
