Did We Forget?

IMG_3121

This little finely detailed hand crafted box that I acquired on my travels through Spain in 1999 was never purchased with the intention of housing ashes of any sort. Some people may think it’s a bit morbid to have ashes from the Twin Towers and the people that perished in the attack*, but I’m a little different than most.

The reason I have held onto them is to remind me of IMPERMANENCE. It doesn’t matter how big, tall or mighty any structure or person is we are all but shadows and dust. We could all be brought to our knees in a blink of an eye.

It’s 2017 and this of all 9/11 anniversary years I get peeved off when I hear people say “Never Forget”. I know I won’t soon forget lower Manhattan looking like a scene out of Armageddon and the smell that permeated the air. It was a mixture of building wreckage, fire and death that I could still taste today.

People have forgotten and their words are useless because at this point when you don’t back words up with action….. well they are just whispers in the wind.

Our country is more divided than ever and it seems all our progress was erased and we are now going backwards. We are worse off today than we were in 16 years ago with all the hate that infected the fabric that binds this country together.

Today you should commit to adding value to our world. You don’t necessarily have to go out and join a volunteer organization or even donate money (the majority of the larger organizations are money making rackets that line the pockets of the executives that run them).

I’m saying begin with baby steps by practicing being the best human being you can by exercising kindness to your family, neighbors and complete strangers. Even taking a moment to reflect on all that your grateful for in life is a start because it will transform your overall mood. Just the mere act of a prayer or mediation with direct intention (this is key) is enough to cause a shift in our existence.

All change starts internally.
When you start viewing the country or better yet the world as how you would want to be treated then that is when positive shifts can occur. Do otherwise and you are pissing in the wind and soiling your own pants.

No one genuinely likes smelly people or wants to clean up after them. Do your part and just be the best version of yourself today and everyday!

Paz…. Pax….. Peace ✌️
