Gates wrote his first software program at 13 in high school. That computerized their school payroll system developed Traf-O-Data, a traffic counting system that they sold to the local Govt.

In 1975 Gates joined Harvard University working as a programmer for Honeywell near Boston. He write software for the first microcomputers, later called PCs. They initiated adapting Basic, a popular programming language for large PC.

Struggling for Microsoft

Gates left Harvard during his junior year and started Microsoft with Paul Allen to develop software for personal computers.

In 1970, Gates and Allen licensed an operating system called MS-DOS to IBM, the world’s largest PC in this period. They were fortunate to retain the license of the operating system for other companies. Microsoft became popular for its exceptional operating systems and killer business deals.

In 1983, Allen left the office because of health issues, Microsoft become popular and world 30% of the software is from Microsoft. Their notable inventions including the development of a mouse for personal PC and Windows OS help to fortune him.

Threats of Success:

Gates was defending Microsoft against lawsuits and the Federal Trade Commission and Dept. of Justice Investigation of claims charging unfair dealings with PC manufacturers. Yet the innovation is continued. In 1995, he developed Windows 95 and in 2001 he introduced the Xbox gaming framework.

Step down from Microsoft:

In 2008, Gates left his position of the daily job at Microsoft but act as chairman until 2014. When he stepped down he act as technology advisor of Microsoft.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation:

Then he initiated philanthropic activities to improve people’s life primarily focus on global health and education. They were selected on Time Magazine person of the year in 2005 for their charitable work. Their foundation has ranged from funding tuition for 20,000 college students to installing 47,000 computers in 11,000 libraries in all 50 states in the USA. In 2019, the foundation had made nearly $65 million in grants worldwide according to their website.

Legacy of Bill Gates:

During his era only the govt. and the large corporation can utilize the benefit of computers. But within few decades Microsoft helps to bring computers to people throughout the world. He has made a huge amount of personal donations to improve the educational framework of the world by the foundation.
