In this article, Adi Gaskell, Contributor to Forbes (and a free range human who loves learning and sharing fascinating things) asks the question: Is Experiential Learning The Future Of Professional Education?

Yes, we think so! The future of work is going to require skills & experience in the areas of collaboration and hyper-specialization. Educational models that foster problem solving, teamwork and communications intelligence will create a next generation of leaders that can navigate solutions powerfully and quickly.

We NEED this level of educational activity to grow leaders capable of solving the world’s grand challenges.

And we need those people to be capable of working inclusively and in collaboration with fellow thinkers, all coming from a multitude of disciplines & cultures.

HeroX & Base 11 are preparing students for the future of work through what could certainly be considered a different type of education. Experiential Learning, through competitions such as Base11’s “The Space Challenge”, is on point.

A few (awesome) quotes that we love from the article:

“Our vision is to create the world’s problem solving platform that lets organizations harness the power of the crowd to solve any problem,” Christian Cotichini, cofounder and CEO of HeroX told me recently. “We want to make it approachable for any organization, including smaller challenges and projects that incorporate a variety of approaches.”

“This diversity gives students a big advantage because the reality is that the world is becoming more global, and we want to give students real world experiences so that when they enter the workforce, it’s not new to them,” Landon Taylor, CEO of Base 11 says. “They walk into a company having worked on real world problems and the ability to say that they’ve worked side by side with people from different countries and was able to deal with differences and see things from a multi-cultural point of view is a big advantage.”
