If youโ€™re a part of the online book society, whether itโ€™s Bookstagram, BookTok, or Booktwt, you might come across a few uncommon phrases used daily. As a fellow bookworm, I will give you a complete bookish guide on acronyms, terms, and slang today!

CR: Current Read โž Often placed in userโ€™s socials bio

TBR List: To-Be-Read list โž A list of books you want to read

DNF: Did Not Finish โž A book that, no matter how hard you tried, you couldnโ€™t get through

GR: Goodreads โž A platfrom to find new books, rate and review past reads, receive personalized reading recommendations, and engage with friends and authors

PB: Paperback โž A book with softcover or paperboard cover

HC: Hardcover โž A book with cover made from thick cardboard wrapped in cloth

WIP: Work In Progress โž A book that author is currently working on

BOTM: Book of the Month โž A monthly membership service that allows users to pick books at discounted pricing

Buddy Read โž An agreement to read the same book at the same time as someone else and can discuss it together later

Reading Slump โž A period of time in which you have difficulty picking up a book or you struggle with reading

New Release โž A book that has been released recently

Book Hangover โž A book leaves you emotionally drained

Shelfie โž A photo of your bookshelf.

Wrap-Up โž A summary of the books you read in the previous month, which frequently includes star ratings for each book

Book Mail โž Books received via the mail

Book Haul โž A display or video sharing books you received or purchased

Blurb โž The synopsis that you find on the back of the book and/or sites

Binge-Read โž Reading all (or many) of the books in a series in a row,

Readathon โž An event, usually with a time limit, where you set a certain goal you would like to reach.

Spoiler โž Anything in your review that reveals important details from a book

Book Boyfriend/Girlfriend โžThe fictional boy (or girl) you only wish could be your real-life love

Cliffhanger โž When a book ends right in the middle of a dramatic scene, and youโ€™re left desperate to know whatโ€™s going to happen

Fandom โžA group of individuals who are devoted to a certain imaginary universe and/or book series

Book Nook โž A special reading spot

Book Stack โž A stack of books and sometimes organized based on a theme, such as color, size, or genre.

Book Hoarder โž A wonderful person who likes collecting, hoarding, or being surrounded by books at all times

Finished Copy โž A finalized copy of the book, opposed to an advanced reader copy).

Physical Copy โž A copy of a book that you can hold in your hands

Kindle โž A portable wireless electronic reading devices
