TODD HERRICKS PASSION WILL MAKE YOU SEE THE VALUE IN HOSPITALITY DEVELOPMENT
Todd Herrick, a diehard river man who holds a 100 gross ton captain’s license with The Coast Guard, and who climbed the West Rib of Denali, has sold and developed many hospitality based properties such as the Gunnison River Farms between Delta and Hotchkiss since the late 90’s and has found himself in other local activities as well.
Herrick has been able to see the potential in run-down properties and has been able to develop them into a natural and pleasurable terrace. Just one example would be the Gunnison River Farms. This 1,000 plus acre farm came from a family who had worked over a century so that they could give the vegetative field a makeover, and turn it into a large peach orchard. When Herrick bought the peach farm, his dream was to sell peaches to everyone surrounding the area. He soon found that Colorado was home to a lot of farmers who all had peaches to sell as well. New ideas for the property were needed if any profit was going to be made.
Herrick was able to develop the property into a home base for Black Canyon Anglers, a fly-fishing company. He was able to place six guest cabins onto the property, a central communal space, and a dining room. Three of the cabins are located near Telluride, Colorado. Additional buildings include a family home, a “glamping” tent that settles over the river, and also a guest house. By 2005, the farm became a certified organic farm and most of the food eaten by the guests came from the land. Herrick hired farm manager Bill Frantz in 2014, who removed the convenience food factor out of the menus to help guests understand where their food was coming from.
Annual Heli-Ski US meetings have been hosted by Todd Herrick at his magnificent Gunnison River Farms resort. During the meetings, Herrick and his team come up with the protocols and procedures in order to keep the standards of heli-skiing operations on a high pedestal. Skiers and snowboarders are excited to have the opportunity to spend the day with one of the eight-member operations of the HSUS. HSUS guarantees professionalism and has been able to continuously provide a memorable experience to its guests.
