May I Speak?
The young girl was sitting in a classroom. She usually sat to the left of the class towards the back. She was short and petite and easily overlooked considering the seating chart. But she never stopped raising her hand for her teacher to notice and give her a chance to speak.
Day by day she noticed the other students raising their hands and getting called on to answer, to speak up on her favorite subjects she’s passionate about. She was persistant day in and day out and kept raising her hand. Her peers would laugh under their breath because it was like she was invisible. So they just assumed that the teacher didnt think she was intellectually ready to speak up and answer accordingly. So she devised a plan.
Each day, she chose to get to know one person in her class. Each day she would ask if she could trade seats just for the day. Some Accepted, Some Refused. But she never stopped raising her hand.
She never stopped raising her hand!
FINALLY after months of trying her way to the front, she made it. The teacher still overlooking her and her abilities to see subjects in an interesting way. She knew she would find the right words to say. Getting very discouraged, she decided this was the last time.
But this time….She decided to take a STAND WHILE RAISING HER HAND.
MAY I SPEAK?
The teacher looked up and and called on her saying “I knew you could do it. I always believed in you. Thanks for showing your commitment and not giving up”.
