Woo Hoo — it’s official, Road Trip has commenced. Her & His World heading south on the M3 to Federal, Northern NSW.
Never heard of it? Her World hadn’t until my cousins decided to live there.
It is approximately 20–30minutes inland from Byron Bay and consists of a Convenience Store & Post Office that pretty much stocks all of life’s essentials. A Community Hall, tennis court, local park and the delectable, scrumptious & totally fulfilling Doma Cafe which is where we headed for lunch.
Queuing with the population of Federal, Her World watched in amazement as 10 staff took orders, delivered coffee and platters of food all with grace, ease and a smile.
The emphasis at Doma is fresh and local and you can taste it. We opted for the sushi mixed plates purely for ease but there is a plethora of choice from their menu. Her World’s Uncle of 90 tried his first ever mouthful of a sushi salmon roll, drizzling soy sauce on it as instructed and proclaimed “Oh Jesus, this is alright”.
It was the start of a 2 day food fest with amazing food cooked up nightly from family, Mexican one night that oozed mouthfuls of flavour with every bite and melt in your mouth lamb the next all accompanied with lively conversations.
We toured the infamous Byron Bay and surrounds, enjoying the exhaust fumes from the hundreds of cars all trying to do the same thing. Her World knew Byron was busy during the summer months, but this was just berserk. Relaxing would not be a word used to describe Byron.
If you wish to experience the “old” Byron during the summer break, head to the beaches around 6 in the morning for your surf to avoid the crowds and hang out in the Hinterland were the pace is a lesson in chill and peace.
And, by the way, if you happen to come across the incredibly delicious and OMGoodness Island Way Sorbets — BUY ONE (or 2). Her World tucked into the Coconut Sorbet and all I can say is……yum .
Her World’s partner His World loves to share his experiences too.
