Phonegap, and the underlying technology called Cordova which wraps your HTML/CSS/JS into a native app is an amazing technology. Building a hybrid app with Cordova still requires a UI/component framework unless you build your own. Our component framework of choice for Sworkit is Ionic. For a long time the whole app was still developed by one person which is incredible considering the growth on both platforms. Now, which 3 amazing developers, we can still all contribute towards growing the app working in the same code base for everything.

I personally have not explored other options like React Native in depth as a production level option, but I do hear great things. For either option, you’ll need to learn a bit about working within their frameworks and writing your JS with a Typescript/Angular (for Ionic) or React Native flavor. There are many other hybrid solutions beyond these two as well. As browsers and devices have advanced tremendously, they are able to power amazing apps made with hybrid technologies. Especially in the past 2 years the advances mean you can’t tell a hybrid app from a native app.

Which services in particular have you heard of and have considered?
