I really enjoyed Ready Player One, in large part because the joy found in the 80s references felt quite real and I’m a sucker for hero’s journey/giant scavenger hunt through the universe kind of stuff. I also have a probably too-strong affinity for the “Young people go save the world against stupidly high odds” trope, which was fed really well by the story. That said…yeah. Cline is not a skilled writer, and I doubt it would hold up very well to a second reading.

I’m actually not sure it could translate to screen as well for me as for some others, because the puzzle-related stuff was a lot of what I most enjoyed from the book. Translating that into a visual medium will be pretty tough.
