How WhatsApp saved me.

My little Angel

I am a proud father of a 3 month old baby girl. Unfortunately my beautiful fiance gave birth 10,000 miles away from where I live. But thanks to the internet we have been keeping in touch almost every minute (a little exaggerated).

WhatsApp was and still is our main media of communication. We text and call for all our personal and family affairs. And since I have not been able to meet my baby girl in person my wife sends me beautiful photos and videos though WhatsApp because its fast and reliable.

Today, I messed up big time. Before I tell you my mess up let me tell you a little about me. I am a computer programmer and an android app developer so I have been found if experimenting with my phone. And as we all know experiments don’t always work out.

I use a Samsung Galaxy s5 phone for my App development (work/testing) and personal calls and texts. During my “experiment” I changed a setting that blocked my phone. My phone asked for a reboot and it never came back to life. I searched Google for best solutions but none of them worked.

After 3 hours of despair and disappointment, I had to factory reset my phone.

Meaning all the cute pics of my baby girl where gone. Imagine loosing precious photos of a child, a child you want to hold very close to you.

I thought I had lost Images and Videos of my baby but WhatsApp saved me.

WhatsApp has a google backup mechanism for android. It backup all the recent conversations and media (Images, Videos and Docs). Even if you think you lost your data you will be saved with the great mechanism WhatsApp has put in place. It also has the same mechanism for iPhone users which stores the data in the iCloud storage.

At the beginning of my post I described myself as a proud father of a baby girl and anything that makes me feel closer to my baby girl is my Jinni.

Thanks to the WhatsApp Team for this great mechanism and I wish you well in all your future work in connecting the world.
