Ok, so sorry to necro this, but I have a few additional pieces of information as I’ve continued to play around with these things.
First up, I have an [updated post](https://medium.com/@hex337/setting-up-a-phoenix-1-3-4-project-with-docker-72f019c5954f) that better explains how to set up a project. It also creates a volume for the postgres instance so that your db info persists between ups and downs.
Have you had any luck with your umbrella project? The one thing that comes to mind with what you’re wanting to do is put a Dockerfile in each of the sub directories and use docker-compose to then pick between them at the top level.
