I’ve observed the exact same thing in my behaviour. Similarly, I learned that in the long term, trial and error is the best way out — just like it’s written in the article you’ve linked.

Struggling builds character. Failure breeds wisdom and maturity.

At the end of the day, it only comes down to how often you go down that road — regardless if you are conscious or unconscious of your actions. But again, in the long term, it’s the right way.
