Founded in 1947, King Soopers has become the top grocery store for residents of Colorado and Wyoming. A subsidiary of Kroger, this supermarket has 149 locations through the Rocky Mountains.
If you live in this area and shop at King Soopers, or want to start shopping at this store, you can save hundreds of dollars on your groceries with just a few simple tips.
We’ve included these tips in this guide to help you save money at King Soopers using coupons, rewards, and sales.
Sign up for the SooperCard
To take advantage of the sales and specials offers at King Soopers, you have to sign up for its loyalty program. Once you’ve registered for your free membership and card, you’ll be able to earn fuel points for savings at the pump and get discounted prices at the store. Members can also participate in giveaways and special offers, often associated with the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos. With your membership, you will receive periodic mailers, often personalized for items you regularly buy, with coupons for discounts and free items. Just enter your phone number at the register to get your savings.
Shop Manager’s Specials
At King Soopers, clearance items are known as “Manager’s Specials.” These items are usually placed on specific racks, shelves, or grocery carts throughout the store. Manager’s Specials include items with old packaging, overstocked items, older bakery items, discontinued items, and opened or damaged products. Close-out items can be found on regular shelves, as well. Just look for white tags with red and black writing.
Inside Tip
You can use coupons on clearance items. Some clearance items have different barcodes, so the system may not recognize the coupon and decline it. Just ask your clerk to override the system and accept the coupon or bring it to the customer service desk to get your discount.
Get Social
King Soopers has accounts on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Pinterest. They post the weekly ad, limited-time promotions, and recipe suggestions. You can get connected with other customers and enter contests and giveaways. If you have questions, post a comment to the store’s accounts or watch one of its YouTube videos.
Get Your Free Friday Download
Most Fridays, King Soopers offers a digital coupon for a free item. After downloading the coupon, you have two weeks to get your free item. In the past, Free Friday Downloads have included juice, crackers, iced tea, shampoo, pet treats, popcorn, and more. Check every week to see if there is a new offer available.
Use Store Coupons
You can find King Soopers coupons on Dealspotr.com and in the supermarket’s weekly ad in The Denver Post’s Wednesday edition and online. This ad includes the week’s sales, promotions, and available digital coupon offers. The typical sale cycle at King Soopers is Wednesday through Tuesday, so plan your shopping trip accordingly.
Inside Tip
As of August 23, 2016, King Soopers no longer doubles coupons, but you can still stack print manufacturer and store coupons. And, if you have a coupon for a sale item, you can use the coupon for additional savings. As mentioned above, this includes clearance items. Pharmacy coupons are the only competitor coupons accepted.
Add Digital Coupons to Your Card
King Soopers’ digital coupons are not printable, but you can add online coupons to your SooperCard. Digital coupons are updated every Wednesday, so be sure to check each week for new deals.
All coupons can only be used through your SooperCard and coupons presented on mobile devices won’t be accepted. Each digital coupon can only be used once per transaction and once they’ve been redeemed, they cannot be removed or added back after use. You cannot stack digital coupons with paper manufacturer coupons on an item.
Inside Tip
Occasionally, the supermarket will offer the ability to apply a digital coupon to up to five items in a single transaction. These promos are included in the weekly ad, so check there for this special.
Clip Manufacturer Coupons
Most of the store coupons offered by King Soopers are for store brand items, so always be on the lookout for manufacturer coupons for other brands. The grocery store limits one paper or digital manufacturer coupon per item per transaction. Only five like coupons can be used in the same transaction and expired coupons are not accepted.
Inside Tip
If your manufacturer coupon is printed off the internet, make sure they print clearly and in proportion. If your coupon is blurry or doesn’t scan, it won’t be accepted. You can only use one internet coupon per item and you may be limited to only two internet coupons per day.
Request a Rain Check
If the item you want is advertised as out-of-stock, King Soopers will issue a rain check for that item. To get your rain check, ask your cashier or visit the customer service desk. Rain checks are valid for 30 days.
Save on Fuel
Your SooperCard can save you money on groceries and on fuel. For every $1 you spend with your card, you receive one fuel point. Once you reach 100 points, you can save $0.10 on fuel at any of the fuel centers belonging to Kroger stores and its subsidiaries. You can redeem up to 1,000 points ($1) per fill-up. When you purchase no-contract wireless phones, gift cards, and airtime cards at King Soopers, you receive 2x the fuel points.

Always check your receipts for customer satisfaction surveys. Completion will earn 50 fuel points and you can take a survey every seven days. Occasionally, the supermarket will offer additional fuel point promotions, including double fuel points during summer weekends or 4x the points for gift card purchases.
Scan for Accuracy
King Soopers has a Scan Accuracy Guarantee, so if your item rings up at the wrong price, the store will give you one of the same item for free. This includes sale items, advertised prices, and regular priced items. It does not include alcohol, tobacco, key-entered items, furniture, prescription medicines, and home department items. If an item rings up incorrectly, bring your receipt to the customer service desk for resolution.
Return Unsatisfactory Purchases
This grocery store also has a Quality Guarantee. If you aren’t happy with your purchase, bring it back to the store with your receipt and you can get an exchange, refund, store credit, or adjustment, with some exclusions. If you don’t have a receipt, the store will usually work with you to give you store credit or an exchange. King Soopers wants happy customers, so be sure to share your dissatisfaction with your local store.
Sign Up for the Store Credit Card
When you shop at King Soopers with the 1–2–3 Rewards Visa Card, you get points towards rewards with every purchase. The points system is as follows:
- One point for every dollar spent anywhere Visa is accepted
- Two points for every dollar spent at any store within the Kroger family
- Three points for every dollar spent on items from the Kroger family of brands
Once you earn 1,000 points, you will receive a $5 gift card for King Soopers.
Inside Tip
New cardholders can save an extra $0.25 for every gallon of gas purchased at Kroger family fuel centers after they’ve redeemed at least 100 fuel points within the first three months after approval. Additional special offers are periodically available for cardholders, so check often.
Download the App
King Soopers offers a mobile app to simplify the shopping process for Android and iPhone users. Build shopping lists on your phone and use the app’s barcode scanner to add the items you want to your shopping list. Look through the weekly ad and download digital coupons on the go. You can also search for items, refill your prescriptions, track fuel points, and find products by aisle in your local store.
Use the ClickList
Time is money, so save both by using King Soopers’ online shopping feature. Using Clicklist, you can browse over 40,000 items and select the ones you want. Once you’ve created your full order, just use your debit or credit card to pay and select your pick-up time. When you get to the store, just pull up to the designated section at the curb and your groceries will be delivered to your vehicle while you wait inside. ClickList has a service charge of $4.95, but this fee is waived for your first three orders.
