I absolutely agree — things are getting better. We can’t have this much dialogue around gender-based violence and not see it reflected in the stats. It’s alarming that the rates of rape have plateaued though, rather than continue to decline along with other forms of sexual violence. This article is over three years old now though, so it’d be interesting to see if these trends have continued!
There are still plenty of other alarming statistics in there though, that confirm the need to transform the system. Out of the 283,200 annual average rapes or sexual assaults in the period from 2005 to 2010, only 12 percent resulted in an arrest? that’s abhorrent.
