What if the sidechain “double spends” a block?

I think this should happen often if chains have different target block times. For example, a sidechain with 2.5 minute blocks should record the latest bitcoin block root 4 times on average.

On further reflection, I think the approach I described above protects miners locally from doing a large reorg fork, but it doesn’t guard against two networks that split and then join together at some time in the future. Both forks won’t be able to join together.
