Expanding Knowledge Creation

The complex environment of the healthcare domain is compounded with the vast body of knowledge that exists within it. Publications of medical journals have increased steadily over 40 years, with the rate of increase becoming more pronounced starting approximately in the year 2000[1].

The ever-increasing volume of evidence makes it difficult for clinicians to maintain a working knowledge of new clinical information. Even after identifying relevant information for a given condition, clinicians and their patients still must ensure that the information is of high quality.

The pace at which new knowledge is produced outstrips the ability of any individual clinician to read, remember, and manage information that could inform clinical practice.

Given the almost 450,000 papers published in 2000, this amounts to less than 0.1 percent of the medical literature produced. Even within a narrow specialty, it is impossible for a clinician to keep pace with the published medical literature. If a clinician training in cardiac imaging read 40 papers a day for 5 days a week, then it would take more than 11 years for that clinician to become up to date in the field. By that time, however, another 82,000 potentially relevant papers would have been published, which would require another 8 years of reading. These figures assume that the clinician needs to know only about cardiac imaging and need not remain current in any other area of medical knowledge.[2]

“Objectively identifying, analysing and sharing the rapidly expanding medical knowledge base with consumers is a key deliverable of Health FX.” — V. Panjwani CEO Health FX

The increasing challenge for practitioners to stay current has resulted in uneven knowledge distribution and that best practice awareness within the medical community can shift rapidly. Choosing the best practitioner is now a point-in-time exercise and the ability to quickly identify healthcare professional options who have appropriate experience, up-to-date knowledge, positive feedback from previous consumers and availability is critical in ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Health FX will extend its experience and vast network of medical professionals to launch a blockchain enabled platform. To solve the challenge of expanding knowledge, the platform uses advanced Machine Learning A.I. to objectively identify, analyse and share the exact medical knowledge of a practitioner, which is turn is matched to the specific needs of a consumer.
