Equal Pay

There has been a lot of controversy over the issue of equal pay for men and women. In my opinion, women should get paid the same as men. If the experience is the same and the schooling is the same, then there is no reason for the pay to not be the same. In an article by Joanne Lipman on the New York Times, she explains how female doctors and surgeons earn only 71% of what their male colleagues make. She also explains in her article that for their first job out of college, women earn over $4500 less than men. These statistics make me wonder what the reason is for women getting paid less than men. It is not fair, in my opinion, that women don’t get paid the same especially since the jobs require the same amount of schooling and experience.
