The average age of puberty is constantly decreasing. But in the last two decades a new and worrying phenomenon has emerged: more and more girls show signs of puberty before the age of 8. We are talking about early puberty. Endocrine disruptors have been identified.

Girls reaching puberty: the phenomenon is becoming more and more frequent. In Switzerland, endocrinologists are aware of this, but it is impossible to provide figures because there is no national register. The 36.9° (RTS) team went to Copenhagen to meet Professor Anders Juul, one of the leading experts in the field. As an endocrinologist, he runs the Centre for Research on Endocrine Diseases in Adults and Children. In the last fifteen years, the number of girls consulted at RIGSHOSPITALET has increased from 50 per year to 300, six times more. There is talk of a boom in early puberty a very worrying reality.

What is the cause? Endocrine disruptors have been reported in our environment. With uplifting studies at the end of the day. “100% of Copenhagen schoolchildren had phthalates in their urine. And a high concentration of phthalates was well associated with premature breast growth and, much later, the appearance of pubic hair.

Very early puberty, although rarer, is on the rise. In this report, a mother testifies. Her daughter was four and a half years old when the first signs of puberty appeared; she was still in nursery school. Painful hormone treatment was necessary to stop her puberty. Without this treatment, she would have been menstruating at six or six or six and a half years of age. Impossible to imagine: “She is a girl who plays mobile phones and has her period. “There’s a problem, it’s not possible, a kid can’t handle this.”
