The Fairness Contract
We did not sign a fairness contract. There is no unspoken, international, intergalactical, conventional agreement that promises the universe would treat us right if we do the same for it.
The universe never promised you it’d be fair.
It never promised that your friends would be good to you, that time would be on your side, that everyone would be born genetically equal, or that the world will treat you right if you do the same for it.
Albeit, sometimes it feels like it did. As though someone made some empty, poorly-worded promises on the universe’s behalf. As though having a friend implied that they’d always be good to you. As though time would be on your side so long as you don’t abuse it; that’s fair, right? As if it’s simply common courtesy to treat everyone the same, regardless of skill or stereotype.
Don’t be fooled. I am not entitled to an A+ just because I studied all week for an exam. I am also not destined to fail if I didn't study at all.
The universe never promised you it’d be fair.
