When it comes to soybeans, Edamame is the name that pops in the minds of vegans & vegetarians. Now you're asking yourself, how do I say this word? “Edamonday… Edamud…Edamuch.” It’s “E-da-ma-me” or you can just call it the green soybean. Edamame is not just a fancy name, this green soybean’s popularity in the western culture dates back centuries from the east. Let's look at what made this green soybean become the most talked about vegetable.

History

Soybeans originated from Asian culture, which were discovered in China 5,500 years ago around 200 BCE. During that time, the Chinese introduced Edamame to Japan, where the vegetable became, and remains, quite popular. In 1855, Edamame were first discovered and grown in the United States by farmers harvesting them. However, the beans didn't become popular until the 1970s and 1980s. Later on as the years go by, the green soybean became the worldwide vegetable as an appetizer, a snack, & for cooking.

Edamame has a large amount of protein that has all the essential amino acids needed for muscle maintenance.
