Optimal health care NOT symptom care

So many people talk about how the healthcare system is broken but all they seem to do is either complain or find new ways to improve on the same old model.

American healthcare or maybe healthcare systems around the globe are based on a simple model- symptoms. If you have symptoms, you have a problem and that problem is something that you want solved so that you can go about your day and live your life without said problems.

However, the list of potential reasons why we experience symptoms is gargantuan; like King Kong gargantuan.

Let’s take headaches as an example.

Headaches, as a symptom, can be caused by narrowing of the blood vessels in the area, muscle tension, eye strain, high blood pressure, allergies, food, toxins, digestive disorders, and some scarier things like an aneurysm or tumor in the brain… the list goes on and on.

So how do you decide what the actual cause is?

Well, currently, we ask some questions and then we do a bunch of tests. And if that doesn’t work, we do more tests. In the meantime, we give you drugs that have side effects (sometimes worse than the headache- yes cuz one of the possible side effects is DEATH), until we get more test results. And what happens if your tests come back inconclusive?

Then you fall into the category of idiopathic.

Idiopathic means that we are idiots as far as understanding the cause, or simply unknown. ;-)

You can see the problem.

Now functional medicine (https://www.ifm.org/functional-medicine) has been a steady change in how we look at care. Functional medicine’s premise is to investigate the physiology of how the body works and then see which dysfunctions lead to which symptoms. They also do a lot of testing but their rationale is that it is used to get a clearer picture of what is NOT functioning optimally.

What happens once they discover which parts of your body are not functioning properly?

They recommend lifestyle changes (diet and exercise) and nutritional supplements, in the form of vitamins and herbs, to promote or improve the dysfunctional parts. By improving the function of these areas of your body, you will alleviate any symptoms that may be occurring downstream.

Sounds awesome, right?

So what’s the problem?

The problem is in the implementation.

Functional medicine practitioners will often “prescribe” supplement protocols to address the symptoms, again, rather than just supporting that biological system.

But if you have a headache that is coming from poor digestion, then support the digestive system and help it function properly and the headaches will resolve. Rather than giving “natural” remedies to alleviate the headache symptom. Understand?

It’s still the same model of care, namely symptom care, but it is using “natural” supplements rather than drugs.

I put “natural” in quotes because not all supplements are actually natural. They are chemically created fractions and compounds that mimic actual biochemicals in the body. The problem is the body doesn’t have a system to “digest” chemicals, only food.

The other issue is that times have changed.

Technology has allowed us to interact with people globally and the access to content is massive.

So what’s happening as a result?

People are more proactive. They are taking more initiative.

People are learning via YouTube to exercise better, eat better, basically to improve their overall quality of life. Individuals are taking charge of their own optimal health journey regardless of what healthcare is doing.

Therein lies the disconnect.

It’s not just the healthcare model that it outdated, the entire system does not align with what people want. They want a system that is helping them achieve optimal health NOT just treat symptoms.

They understand symptoms are going to happen. Athletes of all types know that they are going to have aches and pains and injuries. It comes with the job.

But how are you going to help achieve better performance?

Well, current healthcare can’t. It doesn’t do that.

Unless you have a symptom you want resolved, it has nothing for you.

The rEvolution is coming.

Our vision is to change the landscape of healthcare so that we are creating models of optimal health. Our goal is to create a healthcare model that not only optimizes your bodies’ systems but also aligns with you on your journey to holistic health.

You want a regular life with better sleep and more energy?

We got that.

You want to be able to play with your kids and not have knee pain when you take them on a hike?

We got that.

You want to improve your sports performance so you can be faster, jump higher and last longer?

We got that.

We have all of it because we understand what the baseline for all of that is- Your body.

We understand that if we optimize how your body functions- neurologically, biochemically, structurally, etc. then you get to achieve all those things.

The science is well-established.

The implementation is poor. But we can change all that.

  1. Start with a baseline of health program.

2. Identify the limiting factors you are experiencing and focus on providing support to those areas.

3. Deliver an optimal health system that adjusts with your life and goals.

This is the future of health care.

This is the healthcare rEvolution.

This is Hierarchy Medicine.

Are you ready?
