Want to Glam Up your Home?

know the Basics of designing.

Principals of Designing
  1. The balance of everything in life is very much important. Hence the same applies to your house. Too less makes it look empty or less of knowledge & too much makes it look clutter & heavy. Further classified —
  • Symmetrical Design — equally divided
  • Asymmetrical Design — Need to be divided into different shapes and sizes.
  • Radial Design — Round or Circle
Symmetrical Design

The pic defines the Symmetrical Desing as you see how accurately things are equally divided. The right side of the house is a mirror of the left side.

In the Asymmetrical Design the elements in the image is divided equally but into different shapes and sizes.

Radial Desing defines round, no sharp edges & soft outlines.

2. Contrast is two opposite colors but at the same time should be complementing each other. A very good example is Black & White and one shown below.

Contrasting

3. Emphasis an eye-catching element in the house as you enter. The Below image is a part of my house just at the entrance and is one of the best example of the emphasis design or well known as a focal area. In short, you may have many small elements in the room but that one element in the room will catch your eye at the first very look.

Emphasis

4. Movement means to maintain a flow in the design or can be also said as an easy movement of your eye. If you see the image below you will notice how smoothly your eye moves around the house starting from the table, paintings, curtains…..and ends at the carpet. There was no break as such “BREAK — no empty area or unnecessary adding of an element found”

Movement

5. The pattern is a regular arrangement of alternated or repeated elements like — shape, line and colors. In the below image pattern of square windows is followed by the wall painting, books cushion and rectangle shape are maintained by keeping cushion followed by the table & carpet. Colors like blue are splashed from the sofa to the carpet and red chair with the flowers.

Pattern

6. Rhythm is about pattern repetition and is defined as continuity or organized movement. Repeating patterns, shapes, color, and texture or similar and complementary pieces throughout a space you create a rhythm and visual interest.

  • Repetition of the same element throughout the house. You can repeat a pattern, color, texture, line, or any other element.
  • Progression is taking an element and increasing or decreasing one or more of its qualities. The most obvious implementation of this would be varying sizes — a cluster of candles of different sizes on a simple tray makes it look interesting. It is also possible with color, for example — a monochromatic color scheme where each element is a slightly different shade.
  • Transition is a bit difficult to explain in words. transition is where the eye naturally glides from one area to another. The most common transition is the use of a curved line, smooth or soft edges that gently lead the eye and do not feel irritating to your eye. The best example is a sharp pointed edge of a table that may irritate your eye as it gives a feel of having a cut. An arched doorway, winding path or rounded edges are good to your eyes.
Rythm

7. Harmony, Variety, and Unity is a flow between each of the rooms and the decor in them, as well the spaces that link rooms together such as passage and staircase. It is basically to maintain one kind of theme and style in your home.
