I do not agree (obvs.). Here’s my biggest reason:
The guy wrote what he wrote in response to the people in power trying to fix the problem. No one who can actually fix the problem of the KKK and Nazis and/or police brutality is even at the stage of admitting these are actual problems. We have a responsibility to our leadership when they hear us and act accordingly to give them the benefit of the doubt. When we get all upset and threaten them we become part of the problem. When we give them an exit strategy and help them, we are the solution.
My idea was completely stupid though and would never have worked. It was just one idea. There were options besides firing him is my point, some of them better then others.
And I think you’re right about putting the onus on the oppressed. I just don’t think it applies in this situation because the systemic problem was acknowledged and the system is being worked on. I think its false equivalence to compare the googlebro with klan and Nazis in general, but more so because the klan and Nazis have the support of our President. Inside google the decision makers were supporting the oppressed already, to me, that’s empowering us to help them help us.
I don’t think this was clearly articulated in my piece. I appreciate your feedback and the challenge. Would love to know what you think of it now…
Love you, Classical Sass.
