I think you and I have some work to do here.
I need to hear you better, because I think I am interrupting something in your words that knowing you — I know for a fact — you most certainly do not intend.
I think I am hearing that while we are all screaming —
“DO NOT BYSTAND! Instead HELP OUT! Call out! Speak out! Say with your words to the racist that their particular brand is in no way acceptable”
You are saying —
“No. I’m not going to help. Instead I’ll ignore because I know it won’t change this guy’s opinion, so why should I use my voice to say no. That’s not going to help you.”
But we are saying to you that it will help. And then you block them so you don’t have to see this same idiot going after one of us again.
And I don’t think that’s right, my dear friend. I like you. I think you are super, crazy smart. You are a value add in my head.
But I cannot for the life of me understand why today in this world right now while we are under attack I should continue to accept my dear friends blocking the thing so THEY don’t have to see what is continuing to come right at me.
I believe with my whole heart that you have very good intentions and you would step in between me and someone out on the street. I think there’s a difference — a compartment for you in this space.
I want to know more about THAT, but I also want to say that I think you are wrong. And I want you to stop agreeing to this by blocking it from your own view. That doesn’t feel fair to me.
I need your help.
