I used to work for a hosting company (that shall remain nameless).
The engineers would talk about interviewing people before the candidate would arrive. I heard things like:
- I wonder how long it will take to make this one cry.
- We are vicious because we have to protect our customers.
- It’s not even fair the torture we are about to put this guy through.
- Do you remember that guy who told X or Y person to shove their questions up their ass and then hung up on us?
- Do you remember when that guy couldn’t answer the question and just got up and left the room without saying a word?
Hilarious. Right? 😡
There were 3 women who worked there. I was one of them. Most of the boys were white. Diversity wasn’t important. Also, the turn over rate was 60% per 6 months and the company was 4 years old — turn over from start to when I left = 98%.
You’re not alone. You’re also not crazy. They do that shit on purpose at some orgs and it is gross.
