I was with you, but here’s the thing,
You lost me.
No one is asking for “special privileges” when asking that their rights as American citizens be honored. No one should have to do anything to receive what is meant to be a birth right.
And I’d argue, based upon this statement that you do not have much empathy for this because you view it as greed.
It is not greedy to expect to be equal in the eyes of the law when the constitution says you should be.
It is not greedy to expect that an officer who pulls you over doesn’t overreact to your reaching for your wallet — as requested — and refrain from killing you.
It is not greedy to expect that when someone does kill you, your family doesn’t have to listen and read a non-stop barrage of messages that say over and over that your death is your fault.
Do I have empathy for those officers? YES! Absolutely. They were protecting people who were protesting police brutality! I can’t imagine the strength and humanity within those officers who gave their lives to perform their jobs, even as the group they were protecting was angry with other people who also wear a badge.
That was a tremendous thing each of them did. I respect them. I love them and I am praying HARD for their families.
I don’t think you’re honoring them by implying it is greedy to have the laws they have sworn to protect be applied evenly for all citizens.
In fact, I would think, based upon their behavior, they believe those things too. I think they’d disagree with you. Your own words only illustrate my point further.
They were working on improvements you said. Well, if they decided there were improvements to be made, who are you to question that and imply it’s asking for special privileges?
It seems like you’re struggling to hold up your justifications for your biases while admonishing others for asking you to set them down, and at the same time accusing them of using them as a shield.
It’s annoying. And it’s nonsense. Asking for fairness and equality is NOT requesting “special privileges.”
