The 13th Amendment is a real bitch.
People say it did something it did not do. People say it ended slavery. People say it gave slaves freedom.
People are wrong.
All it ended was the assurance that if you have black skin in the US and are born to a slave you will be a slave too. All it gave was a road paved to a lottery of ‘born free, but we shall see.’
What it created was an infinite loop of financial gain through ‘legalized human trafficking.’ The money is made at all levels of the government and all spokes of the wheel — save one —
- Legislators write the laws and change them around to suit their friends or their friends’ friends — they cry about welfare gone mad while lining their pockets and accessing their gold standard health care we can’t even provide efficiently to our veterans.
- Executive governing bodies sign and market those laws — talking out of two sides of their heads — also while collecting bank that we are supposedly wasting on ‘programs for the underprivileged,’ while also accessing the best health care in the country on our dime.
- Judges, lawyers, court officials uphold these biased, one-sided, under-represented “laws,” and either line their pockets with the victims’ survivors’ blood and tears or the blood and tears of the innocent they sentence to state sanctioned slavery.
- Then there’s the privatized business of the 13th amendment. How deep does that shit go? It’s interwoven in much of what we “value” as Americans —from the spiking gun & ammo sales to the toys we buy our children — it is so pervasive we merely see a glimpse through the fog of it.
Matter of fact, I thought I might be a little crazy thinking how I do about the 13th amendment. I mean we hold it up as a shield to say,
“see that’s over, why don’t YOU just get over it already.”
But we don’t read things very closely and we miss the implication in the amendment. Every. Fucking. Time. The implication is —
“If we can convince 12 people you should be a slave for something that you did, we will and we will blame you for the hell you are in.”
This isn’t to say there are no criminals. But for the love of fuck, every time I see a Brock Turner cut loose to go on raping people or a piece of shit (whatever his name is) dude on a tv monitor in a court room while the judge professes that his family members are ALSO victims after he enters a church, prays with people in a house of God and proceeds to murder human beings because of their skin color I can do nothing but wonder —
are we blind, stupid or both.
I haven’t watched the movie yet. I didn’t know about it until just now. Thank you for pointing it out — I will watch it.
