Yeah, but if the problem is going to be fixed, it will only be corrected with an effort, nation wide by the institution of law enforcement. I agree that we have a responsibility to ask for the change, loudly, often, repeatedly until those in charge correct it.

Once they start to try, it is also our responsibility to acknowledge that try and support their efforts, because we want the change. As of today, there are no leaders in that institution making strides to correct the issue. They are still using ‘the thin blue line’ and ‘blue lives matter,’ slogans. They — as far as I know — did not correct president dumbledick thinskinhead when he suggested they ought be as violent as they want when arresting people.

Given this, I feel it safe to say, that this problem is in no danger of being solved anytime soon. Now, had the response to president dillbrain thumpedface been an outcry from within the professional law enforcement union (for example), that would be a ‘try’ and an indication that they were turning their heads in the right direction.

We can strike a balance at the point they admit there’s a problem in need of solving between allowing them to simply get away with lip service and actually rewarding their try by easing up on the pressure slightly. That ease-up serves to communicate, “yes! Good job, keep turning, now take a step forward, you can do it!” But we must stay with them and help them if they need support to change.

Let’s say they need a database to help them track shootings, or they need community support to prosecute officers using lethal force without just cause. We can help them with both those things. We cannot make them want either of them. We are still in the stages of trying to help them see that it is necessary to have them in the first place.

What we can do is keep applying pressure until they move how we want them to move. The bystanders can only help so much. They aren’t responsible for the behavior of officers who kill black and brown people without cause. The people engaging in that behavior are the people who need to stop doing it.

I don’t understand how this can possibly be resolved if the end game isn’t to correct the bias and blatant predatory nature of this institution and the abusers who engage in the killings or use of unnecessary force.

If it isn’t to get them to change, what on earth is it for?
