MaryLovesGlass: Your New Favorite Pot-Smoking, Baby Boomer YouTube Vlogger
In the latest issue of Smoke Break, our bi-weekly newsletter that gives a feminist perspective on weed content from around the web, we had the chance to interview MaryLovesGlass, a cannabis-tokin’ grandmother who reviews bongs and other marijuana products. She’s basically our hero.
We’re giving you a little taste (toke? puff?) of the conversation, but you’ll have to sign up for Smoke Break if you want to read more!
SMOKE BREAK: What do you love about cannabis?
MARYLOVESGLASS: For me personally, I like the way cannabis can take the pain out of my body. I can feel it melt away and it is such a relief. Also, the feeling of well-being that I get and motivation helps keep me moving. I LOVE that cannabis can be used to treat so many illnesses.
Why did you decide to start a YouTube channel? How has the internet helped your cannabis journey?
I did my first video as a joke for my sons. They really couldn’t believe I was accepting cannabis as a way of life, and I wanted to show them I meant business. The internet was my savior. First off, I was introduced to the idea of using cannabis by a good internet friend. Then, by watching my gurus (Jane Dro and Soundrone), I learned the hows of smoking. It gave me the confidence to take those first steps.
What was your view on cannabis before you began smoking? Did you have to overcome any personal obstacles to accept cannabis as a possible cure for your symptoms?
Growing up, “weed” was bad! It was for those druggies! I was only told negative things about cannabis and never anything positive. As a young adult I didn’t have much to do with it because of my profession. Any drug-related problems and I would have lost my license (I was a nurse). I think cannabis came into my life at the right time for me, because I really didn’t have anything standing in the way of me trying it. No children left at home, no longer working in a professional position, and old enough to understand I don’t have to please everybody!
