They Can Leave the Church, But They Can’t Leave the Church Alone

Sung to the tune of Macklemore’s Same Love:

I’m not Mormon because no one loves me?
Have you read my facebook posts lately?
Words like happy get dropped on the daily.
You’re so numb to what I’ve been saying
Your culture was founded from oppression
Yet you don’t have acceptance for an old friend

Call me fallen
Your message that I’m deplored
A word rooted in judgment
that you claim not to be making
Fallen is synonymous with the lesser
It’s the same judgment that causes me exception
to positions on sexual attraction and skin color held by misogynistic old men

This same fight has led people to pain and depression
Religion or not, there should be no difference
Live on! And and let others be themselves!

When I was in church, they taught me something else
You should love others as yourself
Assuming you know what others are thinking
is complaining about a smell, when you might be stinking

I’m no longer comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than stand up when my motives are challenged
I might not believe the same as you, but that’s not important
I’m good to others, happy
You should be supportive.
