Step 1: Admit That You Are Powerless Over It

Hi again, Ben. Another great article! I agree the 12 steps are helpful for all. One of the reasons I love teaching the Change Triangle is that it is a complement to the 12 steps. It not only helps build awareness but gives us a guide and tool to process the painful emotions that the first step and all steps might bring up. Without an understanding that 1) emotions are blocked by defenses that once saved us but 2) now must be felt so we can move forward, we cannot feel as vital as we might want. We must connect to our body and learn to tolerate our physical sensations. It’s neuroscience! If we can do that, obsessions and compulsions diminish freeing our mind and spirit.
