How was the Gilgo Beach suspect arrested
According to The Post, Heuermann was arrested at his home in Massapequa Park and served for almost a year with the Gilgo Beach Homicide Special Investigation Unit. He was arrested after a DNA test. According to CBS, a major breakthrough came last year after police released a recording of an 911 call made by one of the victims, Shannan Gilbert, shortly before her disappearance in 2010. Gilbert, a prostitute, left the customer 039 when she called 911. “Someone is looking for me,” she hears the switchboard repeat. When police arrived at the scene after 21 minutes of phone calls, she was gone. Investigators said at the time they did not believe Shannan had been murdered. Instead, they thought she had been drugged and thrown into the swamp where she could have drowned. “Based on the evidence, the facts and the totality of the circumstances, the prevailing view is that Shannan’s death, while tragic, was not murder and was probably not a crime,” authorities said. Later in 2022, investigators expressed hope that the release of 911 would lead to answers in the broader search for the Gilgo Beach killer, and officials announced a doubling of the $50,000 murder information reward. investigators were looking for Gilbert when they found more remains on Gilgo Beach in December this year — a woman in her 20s whose remains were wrapped in burlap sacks. Known as the Gilgo Four, they were later identified as Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who was kidnapped in 2007; Melissa Barthélemy in 2009; and Megan Waterman and Amber Costello, who disappeared in 2010. The following spring, six more piles of debris were found along the Ocean Parkway.
