Afforestation in fighting climate change

Forest soils consumes Carbon( iv) oxide three times more than the tree itself.

Over the last few decades, the talk on global warming and climate change has dominated most of the events and conferences meetings agenda globally. As a result, afforestation has been one of the majorly discussed solutions in fighting global warming.

What is afforestation? Is the planting of trees where none existed before. Even if they existed many years ago but the area has not been documented as forested in such cases it is still regarded as afforestation.

Tree planting is the simplest and most effective way of dealing with climate change caused by greenhouse gases since as trees grow they absorb Co2 which is a major greenhouse gas.

Did you know that beyond trees, the newly established forest soils also contribute by absorbing Co2 from the atmosphere three times higher than the tree itself” columbia climate school, Renee Cho /FEB 21,2018.

What to consider before setting up forests

  • Soil quality
  • Right tree to plant
  • The environment around
  • Land scape
