Definition: Creative writing is the art of thinking about something and then expressing it in your own words.
The students of primary classes are very curious about almost everything they see. They like to talk about it, however, they do not know how to express it in their words. For this, we do little activities with them about their favourite objects or people they want to talk about. For example their favourite toy or their best friend. For this purpose, we teach them creative writing. Here are some points which may be helpful for you in how to teach them creative writing.
First of all, ask them to tell you about their favourite object or people. Let them decide what they chose to talk about between these two.
Secondly, once they have decided, then let them think and imagine about it. For example, they chose to talk about their favourite toys like a car, a doll or anything else.
Thirdly, ask them to make five to six simple sentences about it and help them in doing so by asking simple and easy questions about their toys. For instance:
Q 1: Do you have toys?
Answer: Yes, I have so many toys.
Q 2: Which is your favourite toy?
Answer: My favourite toy is a doll. (For girls)
My favourite toy is a car. ( For boys)
Q 3: What is its colour?
Answer: Its colour is fair. (For girls)
Its colour is red. (For boys)
Q 4: What does it look like?
Answer: it looks so pretty. (For girls)
It looks very nice. (For boys)
Q 5: From where did you buy it?
Answer: I bought it from the toy shop. (For both)
Q 6: how much do you like your toy?
Answer: I like it very much. (For both)
These are some simple questions which you can ask them and then help them in making sentences about it. By doing so they will easily learn how to do creative writing by practising daily.
