Moving to Sydney….
Earlier this year I made the bold decision to move to Sydney, Australia.
I am a born and bred London and have never moved out of my family home, but my love for traveling and the realization of leaving my comfort zone prompted this decision.
Why Sydney?
When I was making this decision I had two choices:
- Travel for a long period
- Do a working holiday
I chose option 2 because it works out better for me. As a programmer I can continue my career in another country, and also travel at the same time.
I could have done option 1 and gone down the freelance route, but we all know how hard it can be to “be your own boss” and travel at the same time.
What did my friends and family think?
At first they thought I was out of my mind but slowly they realized it was something I needed to do!
Whenever, I get back from my solo trips, I am always thinking about where to go next and within a week I have already booked my next trip. This was enough for them to realize how much I love traveling and was something I need to do!
Being brought up in an asian family, the notion goes like this: go to university, get married, buy a house and retire.
I am not ready to settle down yet for a few reasons:
- I don’t know where I belong yet.
- I haven’t been met the girl of my dreams yet.
- There is so much I want to achieve in life before I even think about settling down.
I went though a bout of depression early last year, simply because life became stale. But when I took my first solo trip, I felt the spark I finally needed and found my passion.
I am slightly nervous, but super excited to see what lies ahead on my working holiday :)
Thanks for reading my story, until next time :)
