In a country where the use of technology is growing, communication and transmitting information has been much easier for us teenagers.

“Filipino youth today are more the products of mass media rather than their genes or school, or least of all, their homes.”

-The Global Media Journal

Whether it may be waking up in the morning or before going to bed at night, it has been a habit to check our phones. Many teenagers spend nights without sleep using social media which affects their health and performance in school. Media violence has also been increasing and may influence teens that are prone to it.

We can’t deny that media has been continuously shaping our lives as young individuals. Filipino teenagers tend to engage in different forms of media without thinking the possible effects of it to their lives. Media has caused the youth to be more anti-social because they are always glued to their phone, affects their physical activities and lessens the time they spend with their family.

While media may have these numerous negative effects to Filipino teenagers, it can also provide us with multiple benefits. The right use of media depends on how responsible, aware, and well informed we are. If Filipino teenagers are to be given proper education on the fair use of media, this could lessen the effects brought by it.
