DIY projects bring you a sense of accomplishment and reward that cannot be achieved from buying everything pre-made. Making things from scratch gives you a sense of control and independence. It also makes you think about what you’re using and how it can be repurposed for a different purpose. If you’re eager to try your hand at some new projects, here’s a quick guide on how to make your own silicone beads. That being said, these are not project specific. You can easily adapt the process to make any type of bead. This article will help you make a template, a mold, or possibly even a strand of beads. Let’s get started.

What Are Silicone Beads?

Silicone beads are a type of bead that is made from silicone. Silicone is a rubber-like polymer that was initially developed for use in breast implants. It has since become ubiquitous in the manufacture of sex toys and other products. It is also used by people who want to make their own DIY projects like these silicone beads, or even as an aid in making other types of items.

Tools and Materials Required

Silicone mold: This is a reusable mold which can be made from silicone, plastic, metal, or any other material with a high enough melting point. Silicone molds are generally easier to work with as they’re soft and flexible while also being reusable. You can buy these online or at craft stores like Michael’s. Formica board: This is a hardboard often used in the construction industry. It provides an easy surface to create templates on and it’s durable enough to withstand the heat necessary for borosilicate glass. Steel wool: This will act as your abrasive agent which will help you to shape your beads before they set in the mold. Borosilicate glass: This type of glass has a high melting point and is often used for making molds because of its durability and non-stick qualities. It can be found in most hardware stores or online here . Silicone oil: This will act as your lubricant when mixing silicone putties together. You can take apart an old silicone toy for this purpose or you can purchase it from Amazon here . Pressure cooker: A pressure cooker helps accelerate the curing process of silicone putties by increasing its atmospheric pressure and temperature levels significantly higher than what would be achieved if left alone at room temperature. These devices are available at most major grocery chains and WalMart . Silicone putty: There are several types available on the market but they’re all relatively similar in terms of

Make Template for Silicone Beads

The first step is to design your bead. You can do this freehand, or you could use a stencil. Try placing your beads on a shirt on the floor and see where they would fit best. This way, you’ll be able to visualize how your beads will fit together when you make them. Once you have found the size of bead you want, measure it out with a piece of string or ribbon. The length should be twice as long as the height of the desired bead in order to create a template that can be cut out later. Using your string, cut out two shapes from paper (or use a cereal box). The template should be drawn so that it is a mirror image of the desired shape; one side need not match the other side in order to form an entire bead later on. Make sure that each half is symmetrical before pinning it down onto waxed paper or parchment paper with clothespins (or tape). Use an object like a coin or cookie cutter to trace around one side of the shape and then flip it over and trace around the other side before cutting it out with scissors or an X-acto knife. Set aside this template for later use!

Mold for Silicone Beads

Silicone beads are usually made by pouring silicone into a mold. This mold can be as simple as a metal sheet that rests in a tray, or it can be something like a Tupperware container with holes poked into the top. Silicone molds are best when they are flat and wide because this makes it easier to remove the silicone once it sets up. You will want to make sure that there is adequate space around the edges so that you can remove the mold without ripping or tearing it. In order to make your own template, you can use anything that is rigid and flat including cardboard, plastic sheets, and even thick paper (like construction paper). All you need to do is trace a shape onto your material of choice. To ensure accuracy, make sure that one side of your template has straight lines with no curves or angles. When you trace your shape onto the other side of your material, make sure the straight edge is on top of the curve for each line.

Make Your Beads

The first step is to make the beads. Once you have an idea for what you’d like your bead to look like, you’ll need to create a template. The template may be as simple as drawing a line on paper and cutting it into the shape of your desired bead or you may want to try something a little more complex like cutting out different shapes or creating a specific design on a piece of poster board. To make the mold, simply trace your template onto craft foam and cut out the shape. Then follow these steps: 1) Trace your template onto craft foam and cut out the shape 2) Trim off any excess foam 3) Fold over one side of the rectangle so that it’s touching the opposite side, so it creates one solid layer of craft foam 4) Using silicone sealant, glue down one edge of the folded over edge to create your outer wall of your bead 5) Put some silicone sealant on either end of your rectangle and press them together 6) Use scissors or an x-acto knife to trim off any excess edges that hang over

Tips for Making Silicone Beads

The first tip is to make sure you have some sort of substrate on which you’ll build your silicone beads. This could be a platter, a cookie sheet, or even a piece of cardboard. Next up are silicone molds. Silicone molds are used to make the shape of the bead and can be created in many ways including by using plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or wax paper. To create a mold out of these materials, simply cover your substrate with them while they are still wet and then peel off the excess material once it has dried. To create a template for your bead, you will need to use something like cardboard or foam core board. You can trace any shape onto this material and then cut it out and use it as your mold for making beads. Another option for creating shapes for your bead is building up layers of clay on top of one another in order to create what is known as a cane (a rod that is made up of individual pieces that stack together). You can use this cane to cut out shapes from sheets of polymer clay such as Fimo, Sculpey III, or Premo. The final step would be to bake these sheets according to the package instructions before peeling off the extra clay with pliers or your hands.
