Eat that Frog with a Pomodoro

I have a habit of doing search work thus studying on my phone. Even though I have a laptop of my own to assist but I prefer studying on my phone, because I feel at ease while holding a small screen rather a big one.

And it is one of the reasons that I usually complete a task in two hours which could be normally done in less than an hour all because I procrastinate.

As I’m having my mid term exams these days and thanks to Amal institute for introducing this technique to me beforehand and on right time. As soon as I came to know about this wonderful technique I decided to implement it as a trial and started preparing for my exam.

First step: I set a timer for 25 minutes and started reading ‘Things Falls Apart’ by Chinua Achebe and carefully highlighted all the important lines. After 5 minutes, I got a message from my cousin on whats app which I chose to ignore and placed my eyes eerily on the page fully concentrating on my study. Even though in the beginning it was really hard more like impossible to concentrate on the whole because I tend to check my cell phone after every 2 minutes.

After studying for 25 minutes with full dedication and diligence, I took a break of 10 minutes and had a hot cup of tea and cuddled with my pet cat.

Then again approached back to my study with a new task and started studying Frantz Fanon’s article “On National Culture”. Placing aside the thoughts of being active on social media and the curiosity of sneaking into the feeds I started taking notes.

To be honest, it wasn’t easy for me in the beginning but then again I had to do this because I took it as a challenge to prove myself. And later I realized that it benefited me a lot as it saved a lot of my time and I prepared both of the topics for my exams in a very short span of time. I will surely gain benefit from this technique in future too as I found it very helpful for the students who get distracted easily.
