What does a kindness look like? How can one show kindness? Was it an act of kindness? These are the questions that usually arise in the minds of bystanders and street hawkers. Every person great or small has his own definition of kindness depending upon his mindset. However, kindness can generally be defined as “the quality of being generous, friendly and considerate”.

Recently, I decided to experience for myself that what does a kindness look like. In order to practically experience the feeling, I decided to randomly perform four to five acts of kindness.

While gossiping with my family I received a random text saying “bro, can you lend me Rs.500. I’ll return you as soon as possible”. Receiving a text message from an unknown number I replied by asking if I knew him? Suddenly my mobile phone rang and a friend of mine from school was asking me for cash. I asked him to slow down a bit and tell me if everything was alright. He told me the details and I told him that he was welcome to collect cash from me anytime, which he did later at that afternoon, feeling indebted to me.

Secondly, later that day while I left the shopping mall with grocery bags in my hand, a women reached out to me and begged if I can give him some money. Since both of my hands where occupied at that moment I ignored her and kept walking until I sat in my car half-hearted thinking about that poor old women. I went back to her and rather than giving him some money I asked her what was she desired to eat. With a glimpse of enthusiasm in her eyes she looked at me as drops of tear dripped down her face and pointed at the food stall nearby. I escorted her to the food stall and paid for the food that she took for herself.

Thirdly, it was a night time when my friend came to my house without telling me and requested me to tag along with him while he gave his mobile for repairing at the shop. I accepted his request and went to the shop, had his mobile phone checked and asked the estimate amount that was to spend on it. Once everything was finalized we decided to walk around in the neighborhood rather than returning back home. After sometime as my stomach started to growl, I asked him if he was hungry. Since he had already spent around Rs.6000 on his mobile I already knew his answer. Therefore, I told him that if he was willing to eat then it would be my treat. The moment I told him this, the first thing he spoke was ”let’s go to KFC” and I was like “ you just said that you were not hungry and now you are saying to go to KFC?” However, we went to KFC, ordered their deal and ate to our full. KFC being my treat, I still cannot forget his reaction as he sat their eating.

Recently, I got a call from one of my friends asking for my help in making a Prezi presentation for his internship report. At first, I avoided this conversation but later on when he exaggerated a bit and told me about the workload he had, I had no other choice but to say him yes. He briefed me regarding the sort of data that I was supposed to put in the presentation, which I did and asked him to sort out the order of the slides by himself.

Lastly, while I was returning back from university I saw an old person standing in scorching heat with a wrinkled face and a hunched back, waving every person passing by him, asking for lift. At first, I thought not to stop because of the fear of taking a detour, however, my heart got the best of me and unknowingly my legs reached for the breaks and I stopped the car in front of him. I asked him about his drop-off location, which he told me was an old age home. I can still remember him murmuring prayers for me and thanking me again and again upto a point where I started to feel guilty.

To sum up the above discussion, I’ll say that although these ransom acts of kindness seem to be really small, however, have a huge impact on other lives. The peace of mind that a person gets and the sense of respect that a person intuition gives him is on an entirely other level. It’s a feeling that says:

Little acts of kindness, Little acts of love

Can make this world like heaven above
