Where There Is Will, There Is A Way

Will I be able to have nerve control? Will I be able to express myself effectively? What if I give a wrong first impression? These were the thoughts screening through my head as i prepared for my first ever interview with the -HR manager of Coca-Cola company. Turning my file over and over again to check that I had complete documents with me before I enter the interview room. For the first time ever, I experienced a cold shrill running down my spine. However, I took deep breaths for 2 to 3 minutes and once my body has stopped shivering, I was good to go.

While walking into the room I revised my strength and weakness stories over and over again. The moment when I thought that today I won’t be feeling any sort of stress, I saw the pale look on the face of the person that came out of the room after giving his interview, there it was. Out of the blue, I started to imagine what could they have asked him and how tough might be the interviewing panel. Once again I gathered my nerves and entered the interviewing room, which was more of a hornet’s nest for me by now, with a smile on my face. I shook hands with the panel members and to my surprise I had done a fair amount of research on every panel member. Since I already knew them briefly, therefore, my stress level lowered down further.

My interview began with typical questions like describe yourself, tell us your strengths, your past experience etc. The moment I thought that I can now ease in the interview there came the most difficult question of all. Why should we prefer you over others sitting outside? The moment his question ended, thoughts came flooding to my mind as if someone had opened the barrages. With so much little time in hand, I was like a prisoner of war thinking what to say when out of nowhere I requested them to repeat the question again in order to buy myself some time to refine my answer. Owing to my research about the company I thought to myself that “now it was my time to shine.”

I started my answer by telling them about the number of brands the company was currently working on. Then I told them about the number of production lines the company owned and once I have given a brief description I told them about the recent incident that one of my colleagues working in the plant had told me about. Continuing my answer I told them my version of how I could have avoided such incident and if in any case it still persisted, what strategies I would have used to overcome it. Completion of my answer followed with a pin drop silence in the room with panel members looking at each other in surprise.

The next thing I heard from the “Production Lead-Utilities” was, “If you did not had one year of your study left, we would have hired you this instant. So, make sure to forward us your resume the moment you have completed your B.S.c” and gave me his personal email id. Once I was done with the interview, I thanked them for their valuable time and sent the HR manager a gratitude mail.

It turns out that life does work in mysterious ways. This thought did not even occurred to me that I will be hired in one of my dream companies. Feeling that I got at that very moment was as if I were the King. For me it will be one of the best experience of my life.
