Experience sharing of travelling to The Float, Marina Bay to celebrate and witness Chinese New Year 2019 Celebrations

Panorama view: Marina Bay

After moving to Singapore recently, made a group of 2 friends from a local Meetup event. These new friends would always accompany me over any of the local Singapore exploration trips. Today’s trip was meeting at the Marina Bay to witness the Chinese New Year celebrations alongside Singapore’s Bicentennial commemoration event. The Float, Marina Bay is the world largest floating stage situated on the Marina Reservoir, Singapore.

Reaching:

Staying by Serangoon, Singapore took me approximately 1 hour to reach the event venue. The course of travel was catching a bus to Ang Mo Kio MRT station and hopping on to the North East Red line and the Downtown Blue line to finally exit from the Promenade MRT station. From Exit A of the MRT station, I was guided by a large audience going towards the same event. After walking for approximately 10 minutes I reached the venue and was captivated by people’s energy, the decorations and arrangements, the high rise infrastructures, the wind-beaten water of the reservoir and with new friends around.

The Arrangements

As soon as you move towards the main venue, you can see a lot of people, a big centralised food stall place, a performing stage for artists and entertainers, big Chinese themed lightweight statues, on the Floating stage was installed a huge hall showcasing the history of Singapore in form of artistic paintings, written labels and images. It also incorporated Chinese zodiac signs created as glowing real size model indicating Chinese fortune symbols. It also had a big setup showcasing the importance of using technology in a sustainable eco-friendly manner.

What we did

After meeting at a point, we three headed towards the Floating stage to enter the hall showcasing the history of Singapore and then ran towards finding our respective Chinese Zodiac Sign to see what our prediction says for 2019, to which our surprise is getting a friend married sooner and me anticipating a good fortune ahead. Well, then we happen to stop by the floating stage safe corner to click some beautiful pictures. Also, there were other good luck and beautiful coloured Chinese themed setups. Exiting from the floating stage took us to a seafood stall on the recommendation of the present friend on the basis of his previous year’s experience with this food item. By the way, there was every variety present in the food stalls from Indian, Thai to Desserts. After collecting our foodstuff, we stepped towards climbing the semi topmost row of a big seating arrangement right in front of the performance stage. Making ourselves comfortable on the seats what was facing us was the beauty. Everything so colourful, happening, energetic, water light reflections, Mighty Marina Bay Sands, Lotus shaped ArtScience Museum, towards the left was Singapore Flyer, high rise buildings in a proper urbanised manner and a consistent soft wind everywhere. So we three enjoyed the conversations over families, our places, Singapore, work and next probable plans. Also, the performances were happening continuously on the stage being projected on 2 BIG screens right in front of the seating arrangement spread across the Bay. Everything was awesome at its place, the clock approached 10 PM which was the time for a splendid firework show hovering over the reservoir waters. As per the Hongbao highlight firework schedule, today was a 3-minute show. The night was filled with light, not just one coloured but multicoloured. All eyes were seeing the sky in unity and happiness was ubiquitous. These were amazing 3 minutes engaged with colours, sounds and thoughts for me. As the show ended with harmony, almost everyone started heading towards their respective purposes.

Me filling everything I can :)

Closing

Witnessing such a positive event in addition to my experience so far here in Singapore, the ecstatic vibes continue to fill me up with more enthusiasm and energy. This is a must see show for all of us undoubtedly. Wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year and sending across every reader a virtual Hongbao.
