Rwanda: Kitenge, a traditional African fabric, can be used to create colorful apparel or accessories (Photo credit: No41)

Kigali, Rwanda

Exotic wildlife and a bustling economy contribute to Rwanda’s continued ascension on traveler hot-spot lists. Kigali is Rwanda’s largest city and capital. With its picturesque views and skyscrapers tucked neatly into the lush hillside, Kigali has much to offer. When in the area, you’ll see no shortage of traditional African fashion known as kitenge. Similar to a sarong, but also worn as a headscarf, kitenges come in a variety of colors and patterns and can even feature political slogans. TO THE MARKET loves how No. 41 takes these traditional fabrics and turns them into bags, aprons, and Christmas stockings, all in an effort to support school lunches for orphans.
