The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network — Youth Initiative (SDSN 2020) announced the launch of the call for applications for the 2020 cohort of its Local Pathways Fellowship program.

About SDSN 2020 — Local Pathways Fellowship program

On 25 September 2015, 193 United Nations member states adopted a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals that will direct everybody’s cultural, economic and environmental actions towards a sustainable future by 2030.

This landmark agreement serves as a framework for the world’s aspirations to commit to addressing today’s major global challenges. They are calling on all stakeholders-governments, businesses, civil society, academia and, of course, youth-to work together to create solutions that meet their goals and goals.

As young people and this planet’s inheritors, they need to lead the transition movement. They will bring about generational change, challenge the status quo and ensure a more prosperous and peaceful future, filled with passion, imagination, power and idealism.

SDSN 2020 — Local Pathways Fellowship program

The Fellowship is one of the world’s leading programs for young urban leaders in training and research on SDG11. It offers the knowledge, tools and platform needed to encourage young urban innovators to take local action in their localities to adopt the UN 2030 Agenda by:

  • Guiding and informing their advocacy and outreach work;
  • Providing them with a framework for engagement with local stakeholders;
  • Facilitating mutual learning and exchange of urban solutions; and
  • Supporting their efforts to promote local understanding, dialogue and problem-solving for sustainable development.

Each year, the Local Pathways Fellowship brings together a network of over 60 young thinkers, urban planners, sustainability practitioners, researchers and innovators from more than 50 cities around the world to advance local dialog, collaboration and problem-solving around Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) for urban and urban development.

Application Process for SDSN 2020 — Local Pathways Fellowship program

Local Pathways Fellowship welcomes young applicants across the globe, passionate about sustainable urban development. Requirements for the applicants:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old (exceptions may apply);
  • Be based in the same city throughout the Fellowship (January to November 2020);
  • Demonstrated commitment to working toward urban sustainable development;
  • A minimum of one year of professional or academic experience in development practice, urban planning, community engagement, and advocacy, or similar.

The 2020 Local Pathways Fellowship application period opens on November 1, 2019, and runs until December 15th, 2019. The selected fellows will be notified on January 25th, 2020.
