Actually, I am probably not a good example of someone with simple needs as I drill down into quite specific requirements. You can technically have a very usable X1 Carbon with just the following 3 steps and ignore the rest:
- Install intel-microcode & apply Lenovo Fix for undervolting
- Install & configure TLP
- Apply the S3 sleep fix (This maybe a fixed issue soon as word on the street is that Lenovo is actually working on an update)
The new MacBook Pros are also known to have all sorts of issues especially the 15” and I personally have trouble with the keyboard still. Though OSX is pretty solid and I have friends that are considering doing a Hackintosh setup with a X1C6. ;)
