Hall Effect Controllers — buying guide
What are some of the best Hall Effect controllers in 2024? There are a lot of gamepads coming out with stick drift free analog sticks. Check out my top 4 picks, all of them also have high polling rate of 500Hz or more (disclaimer: I own almost every hall effect controller there is, and there are now around 40 HE controllers on the market).
Gulikit KK3 Max — sequel to KingKong 2 Pro
Gulikit KK3 Max is pretty great. I loved their Gulikit King Kong 2 Pro and was pleased with KK3 Max. It had some QC issues, but this is super powerful controller. 1000Hz polling rate.
Compatible with Switch, PC, and other platforms, it boasts a patented Hall sensor that eliminates stick drift, Hall Effect triggers, AI button, switchable back paddles, 1000hz polling rate and much more. Definitely better than Xbox Elite Series 2.
Flydigi Apex 4 — better than Vader 3 Pro
Vader 3 Pro is a great controller, I would place it at KK3 Max level. But there is another controller from Flydigi that is even better — and it’s the APEX 4.
It’s got adaptive triggers with long travel, adjustable tension of the thumbsticks, 1000Hz polling rate feels very premium, even better than Elite Series 2 imo. And it’s very customizable. But Vader 3 Pro is also a great choice if you don’t mind that it feels trashier and if you want that 2 extra face buttons and shorter travel of the triggers.
GameSir G7 SE — Xbox licensed controller
Released in July 2023, the GameSir G7 SE Wired Controller is an Xbox-licensed Hall effect controller, offering an affordable alternative to traditional Xbox One controllers. While it is wired, the controller delivers precision with Hall effect sticks and is compatible with Xbox consoles and PC without the need for additional adapters and it’s 1000Hz. It’s priced at around $45.
Despite its wired nature, the G7 SE provides a reliable and cost-effective option for gamers who prioritize accuracy and durability without breaking the bank.
Gamesir Nova Lite
This is the cheapest Hall Effect controller out there and will probably stay this way. Gamesir Nova Lite is priced at $25 it comes only with a 2.4G dongle and a manual.
It’s honestly the best value for money controller you can buy. Styled in Google Stadia controller way, it looks good too. It’s 500Hz polling rate so it has 2 ms latency.
Update September 2024: there are quite a few TMR joystick controllers coming out which in theory are slightly better than Hall Effect ones. Here’s a list of them all: https://www.hlplanet.com/controller-hall-effect-joystick/
Hall Effect vs. Analog Joysticks
While both Hall effect and analog joysticks have their advantages, the former’s superior durability, precision, and resistance to environmental factors make them the preferred choice for serious gamers. Analog joysticks, although simpler and less expensive, may not match the longevity and accuracy provided by Hall effect sensors.
Conclusion
As Hall effect controllers gain popularity, gamers are presented with an array of options to elevate their gaming experience. Whether it’s the Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro, GameSir G7 SE, or 8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller, each offers a unique blend of precision, durability, and compatibility, catering to the diverse needs of the gaming community. As of June 2023, these controllers remain at the forefront, providing an immersive and reliable gaming experience.
