Awaiting your GCSE results? Consider a Treasury apprenticeship!
Across the country, thousands of students are awaiting the results of their GCSE exams. So, we met with a couple of apprentices that decided to apply to the Treasury after finishing their GCSEs.
Here’s what they said:
“The thing I most enjoy about my job is that there is something different to do every day. There is always a new challenge to face and an opportunity to develop my skills.” (Amber, Treasury apprentice).

Eager to start earning money and gaining experience, Amber applied for an apprenticeship at the Treasury. Aside from her day job as a personal assistant where she has to master the organisational, computer and communication skills necessary to succeed in the role, Amber has also been working towards an advanced qualification in business and administration.
In discussing what she likes about working at the Treasury, Amber notes that she appreciates how the Treasury treats its apprentices as equals. She also acknowledges the support apprentices are offered, remarking that whilst completing her course, she has had regular meetings with her tutor and is encouraged to set aside time each week to complete any coursework.
Asked what advice she would give to the many students receiving their GCSE results, who may be interested in a career with the Treasury, Amber said:
“I wish I had heard about apprenticeships sooner as I would’ve chosen to do one instead of going to college. You will learn just as much in an apprenticeship as you would if you went to college, but you will get the job experience as well.”

George Durston started his apprenticeship in the Treasury’s internal communications department after completing his GCSEs last year.
“I was scrolling through the National Apprenticeships website and I saw HM Treasury come up — I thought ‘I’ve got to apply for that!’”
George was surprised at the amount of opportunities he was presented with as an apprentice. Within a month of arriving, he was attending meetings at №10, and is now the Chair of the Apprenticeship Network.
The Treasury’s apprenticeship scheme offers first-class training to bright, keen individuals eager to learn. If you are interested in finding out more, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/apprenticeships-guide
