Aim of Unit 16 Understanding Specific Needs in Health and Social Care
This unit of study concentrated on identification of different numbers of ways which helps to empower health and social care services users with specific needs. This is highly required in this industry because of the existence of diverse demand. The learners wish to pursue this in future. Therefore, the learners should have a clear idea on demand. This is variable in nature and gets changed as per requirement. Thus, a learner also has to address that. The care requirements of an individual are also required to be investigated and learners should have a clear concept regarding the impact of approaches and intervention.

LO1 Understand perceptions of health, disability, illness and behaviour
A learner must need to understand health, disability and behaviour and to address that a learner has to develop clear concept. The factors which are included in this are language and terminology, images and models. Oppression, labels and rights are different perceptions which are also required to address by the learners. To learn about attitude learners need to gain knowledge on medical and technological advancement. More benefit could be added if relevant legislations are applied such as Human Rights Act 1998 and different health and social care act.
LO2 Understand how health and social care services and systems support individuals with specific needs
Health and social care service helps a lot to support individual and learners need to understand how it is helpful to address an individual need. Overall need has been divided in three different parts which are care needs, Organizations and system related needs and service needs. Care needs address physical, social, language and emotional needs. On the other hand, voluntary and self-help are part of organizational need. Whereas, education and transportation, financial are part of service needs.
LO3 Understand approaches and intervention strategies that support individuals with specific needs
Only addressing the needs of individual is not enough, at the same time learners need to understand about the strategy. Important approaches related to this are autonomy and empowerment, risk management and choices of therapist. Learners also get a clear insight on potential tension and this revolves around right versus self and others as well. Therefore, learners need to read about that. Cost benefit analysis is also an important part of this. Medical and technological advances are required to emerge along with the requirement.
LO4 Understand strategies for coping with challenging behaviours associated with specific needs
Different behavioural challenges and related strategies are addressed in this unit. The patients went through different challenges such as learning and physical disabilities and the best method to get rid of this is excellent communication strategy. The boundaries are required to address by understanding the legal and professional framework.
